Summary

The Center devoted a great deal of time and effort to researching the topic of mentoring as part of the TCRP Project E-7:Initiating a National Joint Transit Industry Rail Vehicle Technician Qualification Program: Building for Success. A fact sheet on mentoring and a short paper on guidelines for quality training, developed for Project E-7 served as resources for the request.

Description

Providing quality training for transit employees benefits transit agencies through financial savings on equipment maintenance and increased employee skills, this is well-documented in the Transportation Learning Center’s research series Measuring Up. Building upon this research, the Center investigates the role of mentoring in providing training to new workers.
