This addendum was created by the Joint Labor Management National Bus Operator Standards Committee in Seattle, WA on October 12-14th, 2011. This addendum was created to be considered for addition into the APTA RP for Transit Bus Operator Training.
This Recommended Practice for the Training & Qualification for Bus Operators reflects the consensus of the APTA Bus Standards Program members on the items, methods, and procedures that have provided the best performance record based on the experiences of those present and participating in meetings of the Program Task Forces and Working Groups.
TRB’s Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) Report 169: Developing Best-Practice Guidelines for Improving Bus Operator Health and Retention, developed by the Transportation Learning Center, addresses some of the health and safety issues common throughout the transit industry, and describes approaches that transit organizations in the United States and Canada have taken to address health problems faced by transit employees.
The Transit Training Network uses technology to enable learning and sharing of training resources across agencies to strengthen training for transit’s frontline workforce.
